القصد في الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - عند المسلمين - يستتبع جميع مقوّمات الشخصية الإنسانية في الفكر والعاطفة والسلوك، لتكون منسجمة مع المنهج الإلهي في الحياة، وتكون هذه المقومات متطابقة مع بعضها، فلا ازدواجية بين الفكر والعاطفة ولا بينهما وبين السلوك، وهي وحدة واحدة يكون فيها الولاء والممارسة العملية لله وحده ولمنهج التوحيد الذي دعا إليه في جميع مفاهيمه وقيمه.

قال تعالى في كتابه المجيد: (ولتكن منكم اُمةٌ يدعون إلى الخير ويأمرون بالمعروف وينهون عن المنكر وأولئك هم المفلحون).
الأمر بالمعروف والنّهي عن المنكر ببعض مراتبهما واجبان كفائيان فإذا قام البعض بالأمر بالمعروف والنّهي عن المنكر، فقد سقط عن الجميع. كما في الحديث الشريف..

قال النبي الكريم محمد- صلى الله عليه وآله- "لا تزال أمتي بخير ما أمروا بالمعروف، ونهو عن المنكر، وتعاونوا على البرِّ، فإذا لم يفعلوا ذلك نزعت منهم البركات، وسلط بعضهم على بعض، ولم يكن لهم ناصر في الأرض ولا في السماء"؟!

وقال الإمام علي -عليه السلام-: "لا تتركوا الأمر بالمعروف والنّهي عن المنكر فيولّي عليكم شراركم ثم تدعون فلا يستجاب لكم"؟!

وقال الإمام أبي جعفر الباقر- عليه السلام-: "إن الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر سبيل الأنبياء، ومنهاج الصلحاء، فريضة عظيمة بها تقام الفرائض، وتأمن المذاهب، وتحل المكاسب وترد المظالم، وتعمَّر الأرض، وينتصف من الأعداء، ويستقيم الأمر"؟! وقال-عليه السلام-: «الأمر بالمعروف والنّهي عن المنكر خلقان من خلق الله، فمن نصرهما أعزه الله ومن خذلهما خذله الله"؟.

كما تقدم فإن الأمر بالمعروف والنّهي عن المنكر ببعض مراتبها واجبان كفائيان، وهما في بعض مراتبها الأخرى واجبان عينيان كوجوب الصلاة اليوميّة. كما في إظهار الكراهة فعلاً أو قولاً من ترك المعروف وفعل المنكر. فقد بلغ أن أمير المؤمنين- عليه السلام- قال: "أمرنا رسول الله- صلى الله عليه وآله- أن نلقى أهل المعاصي بوجوه مكفهرّة".
